Tourism revenue in Cyprus experienced a notable increase in September 2024, rising by 6% compared to the same month in the previous year. Data from the Statistical Service’s Passengers Survey revealed that revenue reached €454.1 million in September 2024, up from €428.4 million in September 2023.
For the period spanning January to September 2024, tourism revenue totaled an estimated €2,575.9 million, marking a 4.9% increase compared to the €2,456.1 million recorded during the same period in 2023. This steady growth underscores the sector’s continued recovery and importance to the Cypriot economy.
Tourist Spending Patterns
Analysis of tourist expenditure revealed an increase in the average amount spent per person in September 2024. Visitors spent an average of €891.29 during their stay, a 1.4% rise compared to the €879.13 recorded in September 2023.
A breakdown of spending by major tourist markets highlighted varying patterns. Tourists from the United Kingdom, representing the largest share of visitors at 35.5% of the total in September 2024, spent an average of €112.35 per day. Israeli tourists, making up the second-largest group with a 10.7% share, recorded higher daily spending at €150.63. Meanwhile, Polish visitors, the third-largest group with an 8.3% share, spent an average of €88.96 per day.
These figures reflect a positive trend in the tourism sector, with increasing revenues and modest growth in visitor spending contributing to the industry’s overall performance.
