The debt burden of non-financial corporations was notably higher, at 120% of GDP.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"527\" data-end=\"844\"><strong data-start=\"527\" data-end=\"556\">Household Assets and Debt<\/strong><br data-start=\"556\" data-end=\"559\" \/>The CBC report highlights that households maintained \u20ac19.8 billion in financial instruments, reflecting a small decrease from the previous quarter, partly due to GDP growth. Household debt, however, continues to show significant improvement, having fallen by 60% since December 2016.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"846\" data-end=\"907\">The structure of household financial assets was as follows:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"908\" data-end=\"1038\">\n<li data-start=\"908\" data-end=\"944\">\n<p data-start=\"910\" data-end=\"944\">54% in cash, deposits, and loans<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"945\" data-end=\"970\">\n<p data-start=\"947\" data-end=\"970\">3% in debt securities<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"971\" data-end=\"999\">\n<p data-start=\"973\" data-end=\"999\">25% in shares and equity<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1000\" data-end=\"1038\">\n<p data-start=\"1002\" data-end=\"1038\">18% in other financial instruments<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1040\" data-end=\"1194\"><strong data-start=\"1040\" data-end=\"1069\">Corporate Sector Finances<\/strong><br data-start=\"1069\" data-end=\"1072\" \/>The financial assets of non-financial corporations reached \u20ac70.6 billion at the end of March. These were distributed as:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1195\" data-end=\"1324\">\n<li data-start=\"1195\" data-end=\"1223\">\n<p data-start=\"1197\" data-end=\"1223\">20% in cash and deposits<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1224\" data-end=\"1239\">\n<p data-start=\"1226\" data-end=\"1239\">7% in loans<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1240\" data-end=\"1267\">\n<p data-start=\"1242\" data-end=\"1267\">0.6% in debt securities<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1268\" data-end=\"1285\">\n<p data-start=\"1270\" data-end=\"1285\">37% in shares<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1286\" data-end=\"1324\">\n<p data-start=\"1288\" data-end=\"1324\">35% in other financial instruments<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1326\" data-end=\"1557\">Corporate debt totalled \u20ac40.7 billion, with the debt-to-GDP ratio slightly lower compared to the previous quarter, reflecting GDP growth. Since December 2016, this ratio has decreased by 86%, underlining progress in deleveraging.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1559\" data-end=\"1670\"><strong data-start=\"1559\" data-end=\"1586\">Other Financial Sectors<\/strong><br data-start=\"1586\" data-end=\"1589\" \/>The CBC report also provided insights into other parts of the financial system:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1671\" data-end=\"2003\">\n<li data-start=\"1671\" data-end=\"1799\">\n<p data-start=\"1673\" data-end=\"1799\"><strong data-start=\"1673\" data-end=\"1693\">Insurance sector<\/strong>: \u20ac5.7 billion in assets, primarily 46% in shares, 29% in debt securities, and 16% in other instruments.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1800\" data-end=\"1882\">\n<p data-start=\"1802\" data-end=\"1882\"><strong data-start=\"1802\" data-end=\"1822\">Investment funds<\/strong>: \u20ac7 billion in assets, with the majority (79%) in shares.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1883\" data-end=\"2003\">\n<p data-start=\"1885\" data-end=\"2003\"><strong data-start=\"1885\" data-end=\"1902\">Pension funds<\/strong>: \u20ac4.6 billion in investments, allocated 55% in shares, 15% in cash and deposits, and 14% in loans.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2005\" data-end=\"2185\">The data underscores the improving financial position of both households and corporations, with falling debt ratios suggesting greater long-term stability in the Cypriot economy.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2187\" data-end=\"2216\"><em data-start=\"2187\" data-end=\"2214\">Source: Stockwatch.com.cy<\/em><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Household financial wealth in Cyprus stood at \u20ac61.9 billion by the end of March 2025, while household debt was equivalent to 58% of GDP, according to the latest Quarterly Financial Accounts released by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC).
