The Cypriot banking system experienced robust growth across both liquidity and lending activities in June 2026. According to figures published by the Central Bank of Cyprus, net monthly inflows for both total deposits and credit expansion accelerated significantly compared to May.

Deposit Accumulation: Corporate Capital Drives Growth

Total deposits held in domestic financial institutions swelled by €601.2 million in June 2026, marking a notable jump from the €343.8 million net increase registered in May.

  • Overall Volume & Annual Pace: Overall deposit balances reached €58.7 billion by the end of June, maintaining a solid annual growth trajectory of 5.0% (slightly adjusted from 5.1% in May).

  • Domestic Contributions: Capital additions from local residents comprised the vast majority of new liquidity, surging by €626.2 million.

  • Sector Breakdown:

    • Non-Financial Corporations: Served as the primary growth engine, boosting their bank balances by €480.3 million.

    • Other Domestic Sectors: Added €96.2 million to overall holdings.

    • Households: Showed a modest increase, contributing €49.7 million in net new savings.

Lending Activity: Household Demand Leads Half-Billion Euro Surge

Credit activity expanded vigorously in June 2026, with total loans recording a net increase of €499.4 million, nearly doubling the €260.3 million net growth seen in May.

  • Outstanding Portfolio & Annual Pace: The total outstanding loan portfolio rose to €28.6 billion. The annual growth rate registered at 11.6%, compared to 12.6% in the previous month.

  • Domestic Borrowing Patterns: Borrowing by Cypriot residents expanded by €213.7 million over the month.

  • Sector Breakdown:

    • Households: Secured the largest share of local borrowing, taking on €131.4 million in new loans.

    • Non-Financial Corporations: Followed with €90.1 million in net credit uptake.

    • Other Domestic Sectors: Recorded a net decrease of €7.8 million in outstanding credit obligations.
